 RCA spends Dh170.2 million on external programmes in H1 of 2008

The UAE Red Crescent Authority has spent a total amount of Dh170, 283,397 on its external projects during the first half of this year. The projects include relief assistance, charity, building and development projects as well as orphan sponsorship programme.

The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has started a programme to distribute Iftar meals to the Palestinian refugees stranded in the Syrian-Iraqi borders. Dr Saleh Al Taei, Secretary General of the RCA, said the programme was implemented as part of the Authority's drive to improve living standards of the Palestinians.

 Egypt receives the major part of wheat sent by Sheikh Khalifa

The cargo ships carrying 850,000 tons of wheat given by President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan as gift to Egypt; have arrived at the Egyptian ports. Over 85pc of the wheat ordered by Sheikh Khalifa to be delivered to Egypt is now at the container terminals in Egypt. The wheat is given by the government and people of UAE as a gift of benevolence to the people of Egypt to lessen their hardships brought about by spiralling prices for staple food.

The UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA) yesterday delivered 50 tonnes of high-quality palm dates to Jordanian Red Crescent. The consignment which is part of President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's palm date grant to sisterly and friendly countries was handed over to Jordanian Red Crescent officials in presence of a representative of the UAE Embassy in Amman. UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Red Crescent Authority (RCA) H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan yesterday gave orders to dispatch urgent food relief aid to Somali areas hit by drought and famine, said RCA yesterday.

The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has completed the shipping of dates to a number of sister and friendly countries for distribution to Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan.
