The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) will host on November 16 - 20 the 9th meeting of the Archaeozoology of Southwest Asia and Adjacent Areas (ASWA) Working Group, a sub-group of the International Council for Archaeozoology (ICAZ), in Al Ain.

 UAE to mark golden jubilee of archaeological excavations

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development is gearing up to mark 50 years of archaeological excavations in the country. Excavation commenced for the first time on February 20, 1959 at Umm Al Nar hills and ended on April 1 of the same year at the request of the then Abu Dhabi Ruler Sheikh Shakhbout bin Sultan.  6000 years old wild camel bones discovered in Abu Dhabi desert

A team of archaeologists from the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) recently discovered the skeletons of at least 40 ancient wild camels in Al Gharbia, the western region of Abu Dhabi, announced Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Director-General of ADACH.
Radiocarbon dating of camel bones from the site demonstrates that they all date to more than six thousand years ago. The discovery has a scientific significance worldwide.

 Archaeological teams continue work in Sharjah

The Spanish Archaeological mission from Madrid University is continuing its excavation works at Al Thuqaiba site in Al Madam area, in the central region of Sharjah, in cooperation with the Sharjah Department of Archaeology at the Culture and Information Department. Older discoveries at the iron-age site include mud houses, one of which was in good condition, which contain eight rooms and a hall, as well as full units with plaster-covered walls.

 New light on UAE's oldest inhabitants

New discoveries by archaeologists from Sharjah and Germany show that the United Arab Emirates was occupied by Man as much as 85,000 years ago, in the Palaeolithic (Old Stone Age) period, according to a paper presented at the 5th Annual Symposium on Recent Archaeological Research in the Emirates, held in Al Ain last weekend.

A team from the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University in the United States has recently arrived in Abu Dhabi to commence a four year project of collaboration with the Historic Environment Department from the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).
The joint ADACH-Yale project concerns the investigation of the Baynunah Formation, a set of geological deposits rich in fossils which is exposed in Abu Dhabi's Western Region, according to an ADACH press release.

Two archaeological teams from Kanazawa University in Japan and Bryn Mawr College in US started excavation in Sharjah on Saturday. The Japanese team is working now in Khorfakan in an archaeological site that goes back to the early time of Islam. The team has discovered on the different archaeological layers a lot of artefacts of the 13th to 15th centuries including pottery items exported from Wadi Al Rafidain, Arabian Peninsula and Eastern Asia, particularly China, Thailand and Burma.

An important discovery of archaeological finds from the Palaeolithic period in Abu Dhabi has been announced by Mohammed Khalaf Al-Mazrouei, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, ADACH.
