 Abu Dhabi launches Artscape

A new series of informal, cultural events is being launched in Abu Dhabi with the first taking on a Picasso theme. Artscape Picasso will be held on Thursday, August 28, at the Cultural Foundation with free entry for all. ![]() British Council launches a search for the UAE’s top visual arts talent

The British Council has launched its first International Young Visual Arts Entrepreneur (IYVAE) Award in the UAE, which aims to champion and celebrate the importance of creative entrepreneurs. The IYVAE Award will identify a UAE National or resident who is working in the visual arts sector and who is able to demonstrate business success with a social or not-for-profit enterprise in this sector. International recognition and an arts tour of the UK awaits the winner.

 Over 40 works on display at calligraphic exhibition

Sheikh Mayed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (DCAA), on Sunday opened an exhibition of calligraphic works drawn from Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Art Collection 1. The exhibition, which runs till June 29 in the lobby of Building 5 in the DIFC, features over 40 works of renowned calligraphy artists from various Arab and Islamic countries.

Etihad Crystal Cargo, a division of Etihad Airways, carried 180 master works of Pablo Picasso from Paris to Abu Dhabi ahead of the opening of the world-renowned art exhibition in the capital yesterday, a statement from Etihad Airways said. The collection of Picasso were flown in several shipments from the Musée National Picasso in the French capital to Abu Dhabi. Al Qasba and Caspian Events launch "Art Scroll View," - the first artistic event of its kind on May 22. It will hold the biggest painting (70m X 1.5m canvas) in the region done live by artist Shahin Norouzi who is an experimental /Neo-expressionism painter. The "Arts of Islam: Treasures of Nasser D. Khalili” exhibition, which runs at Gallery One in the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi until April 22, has received over 30,000 visitors since it opened in late January.  Embassy art gallery portrays warmth of cultural bonding

The embassy of Switzerland in Abu Dhabi has turned its lobby into an art gallery to promote cultural exchange.
The first thing visitors see is a sand-dune shaped sculpture made by a Swiss artist, on sand brought from Switzerland, and paintings and sculptures by three UAE artists.

 An antique collection 4,000 years in the making opens up

An antique collector has opened a private museum in his home which will accept visitors by appointment. Dr Ahmad Khouri, 56, has been collecting items for four decades and has acquired about 6,000 antiques of historical value. A lock-shaped marble sculpture dating back 4,000 years is the oldest item in Khouri's collection, which also includes 2,000 silver and gold coins.
