Dubai has set up a supreme financial committee to deal with its sovereign debt as well as challenges arising from the global financial crisis, a senior official said yesterday.
Nasser Al Sheikh, Director-General of the Dubai Department of Finance, said the committee was established about eight weeks ago and would look at the various challenges posed by the crisis, including Dubai's debt issues.

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) today named Fatima Saeed Obeid Al Awani, 33, as the first female marriage officer.
The ADJD said yesterday that Al Awani, a holder of BA of Sharia and Law from the UAE University in 2000, would go down the history as the first woman to hold the position in the UAE and the region and the second in the world and Muslim countries after Egypt.

Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has issued in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai a resolution setting up a foreign affairs department at his executive office.

 MSC endorses UAE's move to join WEC

The Ministerial Services Commission has endorsed UAE's plans to join the World Energy Council (WEC) as a member.
In a meeting held in Abu Dhabi yesterday under the chairmanship of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, MSC also endorsed a bill on regulating trade on precious stones and metals.

 Cabinet's decision on banking deposits guarantee lasts for three years

The decision taken by the Federal Cabinet today to guarantee banking deposits will last for three years, a source at the Ministry of Finance announced today.
