Two satellite tracking ground stations are to be built in the desert next year to service the UAE's first satellite communication systems.
One of the sites is about 40km from the city centre of Abu Dhabi, while the other is located near Al Ain.

The Emirates Institute for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST), has announced that DubaiSat-1, the country's first remote sensing/Earth Observation satellite, is all set to launch.

The UAE is currently spending US$11.4 billion on Information and Communications Technology (ICT), and that figure is set to rise to US$14.8 billion by 2011, according to research conducted by economic and financial analysts Global Insight.

DuBiotech's Dh250m research laboratory to open in December Posted on 03/09/2008
Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (DuBiotech) announced on Tuesday that its Dh250 million research laboratory will be up and running in December.
Comprising about 250,000 square feet, the research lab will be able to accommodate 100 companies, depending on the company's requirements.
The science and business park for life sciences industry, launched in 2005, currently has 42 companies who have set up offices in the free zone, and many more are in the pipeline, officials said.

Dubai Techno Park, the Dubai Government's technology initiative, said it had agreed to base the first Asia Gulf Horizons Fund Technology Centre at its premises. The Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology, (EIAST), a Dubai government organisation, has signed an MoU with the Russian Federal Space Agency (ROSCOSMOS), as it gears up to launch DubaiSat-1, a project that will initiate its ambitious space programme.
